Flowering tea

Frequently asked questions about our flowering display teas

  • What is flowering tea?
  • Chinese flowering teas are artisan made, artistic compositions of tea and flowers that open into beautiful floral bouquets when brewed. They are also known by a variety of other names like display tea, blooming tea, blossoming teas, hand tied teas, art teas and performance teas. The dancing "performance" of the tea is best viewed in a glass teapot.
  • How are they made?
  • A Chinese artisan uses several cotton like threads to entwine one or several flowers together with green tea buds. They are positioned together in such a way that the flowers take on intricate shapes as the green tea unfurls when steeped in hot water.
  • How do they taste?
  • 1. Boil water in glass teapot or large teacup.
    2. Place (1) Tea Bloom into Blooming Tea Pot.
    3. Add hot water.
    4. Let steep for 3-5 minutes, pour into cups and refill with hot water, the teas can be re-steeped 2-3 times.
  • How long do flowering teas keep for?
  • Flowering teas are quite fragile and can go bad especially if exposed to air, heat or strong light. All our flowering teas sold in our tea tins are now individually vacuum-sealed for optimal freshness. They can be kept for up to 18 months without losing their freshness or flavor.
  • How long have these teas existed?
  • The concept of display tea is an ancient Chinese art that has existed for thousands of years. Teas were often used to visually entertain the emperor himself but were not drinkable. Hand sewn flowering teas you can drink are a more recent creation, dating back about 20 years. The Chinese prize them for their quality and enjoy them especially when friends and family gather for a very special occasion. It's only in the last couple of years that western countries have started to discover them. Their relative scarcity has made them quite difficult to obtain in many countries so many people have yet to experience the magic of seeing their first blooming tea .
  • Chinese Flower Tea benefits?
  • Health Benefits
  • The benefits of green tea in particular have been explored by many scientists in recent years. There is growing, often controversial evidence that green tea antioxidants, (also referred to as catechins) may help prevent or fight against some serious illnesses such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular disease.
  • Green tea also naturally contains fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel and help reduce the formation of plaque. It also thus acts as a defense against tooth decay and gum disease.
